At pier - Laiturilla

This is one of the carpet washing piers in Oulu. As you can see there are barrels where washer can stand to have better working ergonomic. This kind of piers will be replaced with washing places were soap water doesn't go straight to the water system. For many Finn's washing carpets in natural waters is one of those "must" things in summer.

Same theme in Helsinki

Tässäpä yksi vanhan mallisista matonpesulaitureista Oulussa. Niinkuin näkyy laiturissa on tynnyreitä, joissa seistessä saavutetaan parempi työskentelyergonomia. Tällaiset laiturit korvataan vähitellen pesupaikoilla joista saippuavesi ei mene suoraan vesistöön.

  1. This photo is so lovely! Great capture of the cloudscape in the water reflection.
This is very interesting about the carpet washing. I've never heard of it before.

  2. I`ve only seen a few carpet washing areas in Finland - but they're always by the lakeside as the lakes are so clean there.

  3. Oh, I just happened to notice that my link (Seattle Daily Photo - Kim) got dropped and replaced by the newest Seattle area blog instead of just adding hers (Not Strictly Seattle- Susan). There are 2 now, and the wiki has both URLs correct if you'd like to update your links. Thanks,
