Bikeway

One of my favorite places in Oulu is this bikeway witch is between my home and downtown. Bicycling is popular way to travel and some of us ;-) cycle all year round.

Public transportation

And pink tulips too ;-)
We have quite good public transportation in Oulu. Of course all different busses to same direction goes in same time and fee is too much and there is not enough lines... but at least we have one. This photo was taken only one our ago at Tuira district.

Today we had our flamenco school's spring concert. In this photo dancers are rehearsing Caracoles.

Orthodox church

Today I visited at Oulu's Orthodox church. Most observant of you may be able to find that there is a wedding about to begin.

This is view from my kitchen window. It's the daily photo because it was so dramatic light and because when I finally had time to go out today with my camera, battery run down after first photo *sigh* ever before and now again ;-)

Dammisaari

Today we had a little evening walk at Hupisaaret Park. Hupisaaret is a quite large park area near downtown. It was still raining but the air was fresh and smelled good. Time of shooting 9.03 PM.

Wood Anemone

Branch

I shot this at 00.18 last night when we were out for taking some panoramic photos. I think it looks like somehow Finnish-Japanese view. I turned it to b/w because of using flash the colors were quite odd.

I have got a new lens as you can see. Today I didn't have too much time to try it but I think we are going to have a lot of fun with it.

Poor pansies

Today was a horribly freezing day, only 2-3 degrees above zero and very strong wind. I tried to catch this coldness even the sun was shining brightly and the sky was so blue.

Another familiar building at sunset (see April 24th) but this time from other direction.

At first I drove past but the light was so interesting that I turned back to shoot this photo. This is the same building you can see at the backround in 11th of May post.

Summer rain

Today we got the first proper summer rain.

Wood Anemones

Today I saw first time in Oulu wood anemones and of course I share the joy with you. Near by is Priki park and wood anemones is blooming now.

Following text is from information board at the park:
"Priki Park, growing in its natural state, is situated in the middle of the housing blocks and is connected to the green zones of Toppilansaari and the Oulu River Delta via Lundström Park.
Priki Park is constructed by hand to protect the vegetation. Management aims to maintain the rare habitat of the wood anemone, the versatile vegetation and the trees."

(While I was lying on the ground taking photos some kids came and ask what I was doing. Their opinion about flower photographs was that it’s totally misuse of good camera and quite silly too.)

Balcony

My plan was to take a sunset photo from my balcony but before setting sun went behind clouds. For some reason this view catch my eye. There is some sadness in early summer evenings and maybe you can sense it from this photo. I shot this at 9.30 PM so you can see that we have already those light summer nights.

Fire escape

Rarely you can see this beautiful fire escape. I pass this house every time when I go to downtown by bike but today shadows was so nice that I had to stop and take this photo.

New leaves

I tried today catch up that pointillist impression of new birch leaves, but it was much difficult than I expected. My best shot was this one, and there is no birch but hagberry instead. I think those leafs look like bright butterflies in forest.

Market hall

In honour of 105 years old Oulu market hall this interior photo. Actually the market hall building was ready a week earlier, 1st fo May, but the business started on 8th of May. At first marketeers didn’t want to go inside from the market place open sky, so armed imperial soldiers compelled them to do so by order.

Market hall is drawn by architects Karl Lindahl and Walter Thome. Its costs was in those days 13 200 mk (79 200 €). Oulu market hall is the fifth biggest in Finland.

Demonstration

Today I happened to be at pedestrian street when there was a little demonstration behalf of legalizing home growth marijuana. First banderol with hearts asks: "a bit more gently, please". Second: "Let the flowers bloom" and the green one says "No for criminality, lets grow at home"

blue, blue sky

This is shot just because of the color of the sky. On front is corner of the Youth and Culture Centre (former police station, built 1890) and behind is the City Hall.

Kansankatu 47

This is the building from which yesterdays detail photo was shot. It is former SOK office and store, designed by architect Erkki Huttunen. It was reconstruct at 1938 (or 1940, I found different knowledge). In these days there is lot of different, bigger and smaller companies, including the one I'm working with.

Yesterday I shot the photo at main door (middle of this photo behind those greenish bushes), under very beautifully shaped canopy.

It has been again a warm and calm evening. This photo I shot at downtown at 20.45 PM. Not so far behind my back is the place you can see in 25th and 28th of april pictures.
